Job Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Healthcare Information Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for receiving, validating, and processing requests for healthcare information in line with established policies and procedures. You'll accurately enter requests into our electronic tracking system and use various resources... including our Electronic Health Record system, paper charts, and microfilm/microfiche, to provide the necessary healthcare information. Additionally, you will handle billing for requests as needed, ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times. Key Responsibilities Receive and validate requests for healthcare information. Process and fulfill requests using our Electronic Health Record system and other resources. Enter and track requests in our electronic system. Bill for requests appropriately. Maintain strict confidentiality of all healthcare information. Qualifications Knowledge/Experience: Understanding of state and federal regulations, including HIPAA. Familiarity with medical record components and medical terminology. At least 1 year of experience in release of information is required; 2 years preferred. Proficiency with computers and electronic health records. Strong customer service and communication skills. Education High school diploma or equivalent is required. Coursework in health information management or release of information is preferred. Licenses/Certifications RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) or RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) certification is preferred. Skills And Attributes Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and challenging situations with professionalism and maturity. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on providing empathetic and non-judgmental customer service. Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic work environment, including openness to feedback and changes in scheduling or assignments. Keen attention to detail and the ability to multi-task effectively. Precision in examining records, verifying patient identification, and processing requests within established timelines.
