Inpatient Coding & DRG Validation Specialist (Remote – Must Reside in EST Time Zone) FULL TIME M-F 8-5 EST Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Coding & DRG Validation Specialist to support our inpatient review program. This is a fully remote position; however, candidates must reside in the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone to align with operational and team needs. The ideal candidate will leverage expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding guidelines, DRG assignment, and AHA Coding Clinic regulations to ensure accuracy, compliance, and high-quality review outcomes. Responsibilities: • Review, re-abstract, and recode inpatient hospital medical records to verify that submitted data aligns with documentation in the medical record. • Validate DRG assignments and ensure adherence to ICD-10-CM Official Coding Guidelines and AHA Coding Clinic regulations. • Refer cases appropriately to Physician Consultants and RN Clinical Reviewers when additional clinical expertise is needed. • Assist in data analysis, reporting of findings, and quality improvement initiatives. • Support DRG-related education, training, and implementation efforts for internal teams. • Participate in medical record review, utilization review, and quality assurance activities as assigned. • Perform other duties as needed to support departmental goals. Qualifications: • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative leadership. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Advanced technical knowledge of inpatient coding, DRG validation, and regulatory compliance. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high accuracy. Education & Experience: • Required: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification. • Required: ICD-10 certification. • Minimum of 1 year of hospital inpatient coding and abstracting experience.
