As an Artist in Residence and Teacher of Voice, you will be an essential part of this community, working closely with students, faculty, and staff to foster musical excellence and nurture vocal talent. Key Responsibilities Artist in Residence Responsibilities: Assist with student recruitment and assess admissions portfolios Participate in student advising as relevant and perform additional duties as needed Build and sustain a successful program for teaching students who desire voice lessons, with a focus on breadth of application, including University Chorus, acapella groups, musical theater, and opera Prepare students for Junior and Senior Recitals Commit to continued growth in a national/international career as a vocal artist Collaborate with Department of Music Faculty and University Ensemble Directors to support the Music Department's commitment to inclusivity and interdisciplinary arts initiatives Actively support the evolving interests of vocally oriented student groups on campus Initiate and maintain off-campus musical relationships Teacher of Voice Responsibilities: Teach voice lessons to students, focusing on vocal techniques, breathing exercises, pitch control, and performance skills Develop and implement lesson plans catering to students' needs and skill levels Select appropriate vocal repertoire and musical pieces for students to work on during lessons and performances Stay updated with current trends and developments in vocal pedagogy and incorporate innovative teaching methods into lessons Prepare students for Junior and Senior Recitals Essential Qualifications To be considered for this role, you must possess the following essential qualifications: Artist in Residence Qualifications: Significant professional performing experience as a vocalist Significant experience teaching voice at the college level Master's degree in music, voice performance, or a related field Teacher of Voice Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in voice Proven experience as a vocal instructor, preferably at the collegiate level or equivalent professional experience Strong vocal proficiency and a demonstrated ability to teach a variety of vocal styles, languages, and genres Ability to effectively communicate and work with students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels Familiarity with current and evolving vocal pedagogy research and techniques Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: Artist in Residence Qualifications: A Master's degree in music, voice performance, or a related field (required) Teacher of Voice Qualifications: A Master's degree in music, voice performance, or a related field (preferred) Professional performing experience as a vocalist (preferred) What We Offer As a member of the Colgate University community, you will enjoy a range of benefits, including: A competitive hourly salary of $59.20 Sick leave and paid time off Free parking on campus A University 'Gate Card that provides access to fitness facilities, athletic and cultural events, as well as a discount on many items at the University Bookstore Opportunities for professional growth and development A dynamic and supportive work environment Work Schedule and Environment This is a part-time, casual wage position that requires approximately 5-10 hours per week, typically within 1-2 days, for 12 weeks during the semester. Additional hours may be required for tasks such as evaluating submissions. The role is remote, but occasional on-campus meetings and performances may be necessary.
