Title: Analyst - Harm Reduction $57,761.60- $84,260.80/ Posted thru: 12/22/2025 Location: Remote/Virtual – Must work and Live in the State of Michigan Some In-State Travel Required Purpose: This position functions as a professional to support state and local public health officials, syringe service programs, and other stakeholders in the review, analysis, and development of harm reduction programs and services across the state of Michigan. Specifically, the Harm Reduction Analyst is tasked with increasing syringe access capacity in Michigan, as well as supporting statewide harm reduction efforts. This includes, but is not limited to, providing direction and technical assistance to stakeholders and grantees, identifying resources for program implementation, assisting with community education, and coordinating data collection, program evaluation, program monitoring, and progress reporting to grantors. This position will also have a specialized focus in engaging with populations disproportionately impacted by the opioid crisis. Duties and Responsibilities: • Establishes contacts and meets with public, private, and community-based agencies to assist in the expansion and implementation of harm reduction. programs and procedures, as well as supports existing harm reduction agencies. • Support harm reduction agencies which includes, but is not limited to: • Conduct standard scheduled check-in calls. • Provide technical assistance and support on implementation and reporting. • Conduct bi-annual in-person site visits. • Fulfill supply order requests. • Works with other harm reduction analysts to facilitate collaborations among partners statewide to improve health in a community. • Consults with and provides technical assistance to state and local program administrators, legislators, the media, and other interested parties regarding harm reduction. • Designs and implements health education and training programs for public and private health agencies and personnel to improve population health. • Develops educational materials, newsletters, reports, and media to enhance public awareness regarding harm reduction programs. • Develops criteria for and supports on-site reviews of syringe service programs to collect and analyze information necessary to evaluate harm reduction efforts. • Assist in the completion of applications and progress reports for grants supporting harm reduction activities. • Ensures that health dignity of individuals and populations is addressed in policies, programs, and services that affect the health of a community. • Always represent the best interests of MPHI and MDHHS. • Assist with planning and facilitating the annual harm reduction summit. • Other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Requirements: Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree in public health, health communication, health policy, or a public health-related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, social work, public or business administration with a health care concentration. Prefer candidates with a master’s degree in one of these areas. Will consider candidates with a combination of education and experience as it relates to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Experience: A minimum of 1 year working in a public health, healthcare, or health education role at an agency such as a local, state, or federal health department, a community-based organization, or health system. Personal or professional experience with populations who use or inject substances is desired. Important Skills and Characteristics: • Ability to identify relationships that affect health in a community (e.g., hospitals, relationships among health departments, community-based agencies, etc.). • Ability to facilitate collaboration and coordination among public and private health programs to initiate health and wellness initiatives. • Knowledge of the methods used to plan, develop, implement, support, and evaluate population health programs. • Ability to use knowledge of population health programs to prepare promotional and educational literature, organize events, and assist in the conduct of promotional and educational programs. • Ability to train health professionals to promote and implement health-related initiatives. • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work. • Ability to communicate effectively with others. Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Standard office and/or telework environment. Will require some travel to attend meetings in Lansing as well as in-person statewide trainings and on-site reviews of syringe service programs. May require a valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform the duties of the position. Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <50# and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 25% to 75% of the time. RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS: No assigned responsibilities. IMPACT ON PROJECTS, SERVICES AND OPERATIONS: This position has a direct impact on the quality of services provided by MPHI to MDHHS.
